Summary:

Coat colour affects differentiation of populations into breeds. Additionally some authors proposed the use of the genes responsible of coat colour variation in diversity studies. In this work we review the knowledge on genes affecting coat colour (loci Extension or Mc1r and Agouti or ASIP) and spotting patterns (KIT and MGF).
