Summary:
To carry out a sustainable use of water and energy resources, it is necessary to develop decisions support
tools that permit to improve the management of irrigable areas, such as benchmarking techniques.
In this paper, the results of applying this methodology in seven irrigation societies in Castilla-La
Mancha, are shown.
To apply this tool, performance indicators and, mainly, energy indicators have been developed, which
could help to improve the management of irrigable areas.
By means of the combined application of Principal Components Analysis and Cluster Analysis three
proposals for reducing the number of indicators has been indicated, which can be useful to characterize
irrigable areas.
