Summary:

Review about dairy sheep breeding programs. Traditionally, dairy sheep production has been closely related to native breeds very adapted to local aerea and production systems. All breeding programs are based on pure breed selection. This work shows milking recording programs, use of artificial insemination, genetic evaluations and selection objectives and criteria. The situation of new traits (udder morphology and somatic cell count) is also described. Nowadays, the use of new reproductive and/or molecular techniques is very low.
