Summary:

Test day milk yield and protein percentage models and genetic parameters estimation has been studied in Manchega milk ewes. Test day milk yield and protein percentage fixed models which included herd‑test day contemporary group presented higher determination coefficients than those ones with herd‑year of test and month of test considered as independent effects. Genetic parameters for test day data were estimated under a multitrait animal model which considered production in successive test days within lactation as different traits. Genetic parameters for 120 day milk and protein percentage production were also estimated separately. Heritabilities for the second, third and fourth test days were similar to those estimated for 120 days standardised milk yield and protein percentage, 0.15 and 0.28, respectively. The first test day yield presented lower heritability values for all lactations and both, milk and protein percentage, than those of the standardised traits ones. Genetic correlations estimates among milk and protein percentage test days yields within each lactation were high and positive but different from one, which could reflect different genetic action for each test day yield.
